For most of us adults, growing up as a kid always reminded me of my mother telling me that I have to make my bed every single morning. “What a terrible chore to do!” Was my usual reaction each and every morning. However I have come to learn over the many years that making your bed first thing in the morning is a highly overlooked thing that doesn’t get the credit it deserves.
What to do…
The first thing you want to do as soon as you wake up is to go ahead and make your bed. You can also get your partner or spouse involved with this if you are not able to everyday or just need a break. It doesn’t matter if there are some clothes on the floor or the dresser is messy. See, no one is asking that as soon as your roll out of bed that you all of a sudden transform in a room cleaning service! It’s not that hard and will only take you a few short minutes to tidy up a bit.
This is so important to you in a subtle way because you will find that a “sense of order” is in place and that is soothing to the mental psyche. If you are ever having one of those days at work where things are just not going your way or the family is just driving you crazy – you have a nice serene, and neat place to retreat to. Having a clean and neat bed makes it easier for you to unwind and read a book or just meditate.
